Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how the "Compare Two Lists" Google Workspace Add-on ("we", "our", "us", or "the Add-on") collects, uses, and handles your information when you use our service. Data Controller and Data Processor

For the purposes of the GDPR and other applicable data protection laws:

  • You (the user or your organization) are considered the "Data Controller" for any personal data contained within your Google Sheets that the Add-on processes.
  • We act as a "Data Processor" when handling any personal data as part of providing the Add-on functionality.
  • Google acts as a sub-processor in providing the infrastructure on which the Add-on operates.

Information We Collect and Process

User Data

The "Compare Two Lists" Add-on accesses only the data that you explicitly select within your Google Sheets document. Specifically:

  • The content of columns you select for comparison (processed only during the comparison operation)
  • Your comparison preferences (case sensitivity, whitespace handling, header row exclusion)

The Add-on does not distinguish between personal and non-personal data within your spreadsheets and treats all data with the same level of confidentiality and security.

Technical Information

We may collect standard technical information such as:

  • Error logs when the Add-on encounters issues (not containing your spreadsheet data)
  • Basic usage statistics to improve functionality (anonymized)

Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

Under the GDPR, our legal basis for processing your data is:

  • Performance of a contract: To provide you with the Add-on functionality you request
  • Legitimate interests: To maintain and improve the Add-on
  • Your consent: Which you provide by installing the Add-on and granting the requested permissions

How We Use Information

The information accessed by our Add-on is used solely for the purpose of:

  1. Performing the requested column comparisons
  2. Creating result sheets within your spreadsheet
  3. Remembering your comparison preferences for future use within the same session
  4. Diagnosing technical problems and improving the Add-on functionality

Data Storage and Security

User Properties

The Add-on stores minimal user preferences using Google's PropertiesService.getUserProperties() API. This includes your preferences for:

  • Ignoring case sensitivity
  • Ignoring leading/trailing spaces
  • Excluding header rows

These preferences are stored securely within your Google Workspace account and are only accessible by the Add-on when you are using it.

Cloud Storage

The "Compare Two Lists" Add-on:

  • Does NOT store your spreadsheet data on our own servers
  • Does NOT transfer your data outside of Google's infrastructure
  • Processes all comparisons locally within Google's secure environment
  • Does NOT retain your data after the comparison operation is complete

Data Location and Cross-Border Transfers

All data processing occurs within Google's infrastructure. Google's data centers are located globally, and your data may be processed on servers located outside of your country of residence. Google maintains compliance with data transfer mechanisms such as Standard Contractual Clauses as required by the GDPR for EU users. Third-Party Access

We do not share your data with any third parties. All processing occurs within Google's infrastructure through the authorized scopes.

Google API Services

This Add-on uses Google API Services and requests access to the following scopes:

  • https://www.googleapis.com/auth/spreadsheets.currentonly: Allows the Add-on to view and modify only the specific Google Spreadsheet that you are using with the Add-on
  • https://www.googleapis.com/auth/script.locale: Allows the Add-on to determine your locale settings
  • https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file: Allows the Add-on to view and manage files that you have explicitly opened or created with the Add-on

Data Retention

The Add-on:

  • Retains your comparison preferences only during your active session
  • Does not persistently store any of your spreadsheet data
  • Creates result sheets only within your own spreadsheet, which remain under your control
  • Any error logs that may contain technical information (not your spreadsheet data) are retained for a maximum of 30 days

Your Data Protection Rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data:

For European Users (GDPR)

  • Right to access: You can request copies of your personal data.
  • Right to rectification: You can request that we correct inaccurate information.
  • Right to erasure: You can request that we delete your personal data.
  • Right to restrict processing: You can request that we restrict the processing of your data.
  • Right to data portability: You can request the transfer of your data to another service.
  • Right to object: You can object to our processing of your personal data.
  • Rights related to automated decision-making and profiling.

Since we process minimal personal data and do not sell or share your data with third parties, many of these rights can be exercised directly by managing your Google account and controlling the Add-on's access permissions.

User Controls

You have complete control over your data:

  • You explicitly select which columns to compare
  • Result sheets are created within your spreadsheet and remain under your control
  • You can revoke the Add-on's access at any time through your Google Account settings
  • You can delete result sheets created by the Add-on at any time
  • You can use Google's Data Export tools to extract your data from Google's services

Data Protection Measures

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:

  • Processing data only within Google's secure infrastructure
  • Limiting data access to only what is necessary for the Add-on's functionality
  • Not storing or retaining any of your spreadsheet data
  • Regular security reviews of our code and practices

Children's Privacy

The "Compare Two Lists" Add-on is not intended for use by children under 16 years of age in the EU or under 13 years of age in the US. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on the Google Workspace Marketplace listing and, where appropriate, notifying you by email. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.

Limited Use

The "Compare Two Lists" Add-on's access to Google user data is limited to:

  1. The Add-on will only use Google user data to provide or improve user-facing features that are prominent in the Add-on's interface.
  2. The Add-on will not sell Google user data.
  3. The Add-on will not use Google user data for serving advertisements.
  4. The Add-on will not allow humans to read the user data unless:
